RAINN Statement Following the Cross-Examination of E. Jean Carroll in Civil Rape Trial
RAINN Encourages Survivors and Loved Ones to Call the National Sexual Assault Hotline for Support

Washington, D.C. (April 27, 2023) - RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, released the following statement following the cross-examination of E. Jean Carroll in her civil rape case against Donald Trump:

“This cross examination is an example of just how difficult navigating the justice system can be for survivors,” said Erinn Robinson, Director of Media Relations, RAINN. “For survivors who are following this case and may be weighing the decision to come forward, we see you, we hear you, and the National Sexual Assault Hotline is here for you.”

Carroll’s civil case was enabled by New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which RAINN’s policy team advocated for and helped pass. This legislation extended the time period to pursue a case, allowing survivors to have the time they need to heal before having to make a decision about pursuing a legal case.

When reading stories about sexual violence, survivors may need support. If you're writing about this case or other sexual assault crimes, please include RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline (NSAH) with the language below:
