Insights from Study on Teen Dating and Violence

In a comprehensive study focused on understanding teen dating violence, July researchers released the National Survey on Teen Relationships and Intimate Violence (STRiV). This longitudinal study offers a trauma-informed lens to explore the intricacies of teen dating violence through detailed measures of victimization and perpetration.

Peer Support Through Safe Helpline

The Department of Defense (DoD) Safe Helpline is the Department’s sole crisis support service specially designed for members of the DoD community affected by sexual assault. Safe Helpline is secure, confidential, anonymous, and available 24/7, worldwide. The Safe Helpline staff provides live, one-on-one support to survivors, their families, and other DoD stakeholders. It is operated by RAINN through a contract with the DoD Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office.

Spanish-Speaking Survivors Reach out to La Línea de Ayuda Nacional de Abuso Sexual for Support

RAINN expanded the National Sexual Assault Hotline in 2015 to provide Spanish-language services, to help ensure that more survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones have access to free, confidential, anonymous, 24/7 support in their native language.

Safety Tips for Summer Camps

Whether it’s day camp, overnight camp, or any other summer activity in a communal space, kids look forward to engaging in arts, sciences, dancing, sports, and nature — and having summer fun. At the same time, it’s normal for parents to have safety concerns.

Here are some tips to help parents, caregivers, and kids plan for a safe and fun summer camp experience — and help reduce the risk of sexual violence while in these spaces.

RAINN Celebrates Black Survivors on Juneteenth

Juneteenth, which became a federal holiday in 2021, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S. This June 19, and all year long, RAINN celebrates Black survivors and acknowledges the political, social, and economic barriers that prevent some survivors from seeking support.

Greeks Take Action of UW Community Meeting

Description of Event: They are a student organization at the University of Washington that addresses community-wide manifestations of sexual assault and relationship violence in Greek life. They provide events, specialized programming, institutional reform, and general advocacy for our more than 4,000 constituents. They were hoping to host a survivor, possibly one who experienced SARV while in college, at a meeting.

Where: They are located in the U District neighborhood of Seattle, WA.

When: They have availability for the months of October, November, and December.

In-person or Remote: They would hope to have a speaker in-person, but if this is not available they could broadcast a speaker for a meeting.

Description of Event: Raquel is with Youth Guidance BAMFI in Washington D.C. Becoming A Man® program (BAM) is a school-based group counseling program that guides young men in 7-12th grades to learn, internalize and practice social cognitive skills, make responsible decisions for their future and become positive members of their school and community. They would like to have a speaker come in during the summer and speak to the young men in their program. The subject which they want to cover is consent.

Additional Information: They are looking for a black man, someone between mid to late 20s or 30s. The students are tenth-grade ages 15–17-year-old black males.
