Singer-Songwriter Brings RAINN Community Together Through Music

This year for RAINN Day, a national day of awareness on campuses, RAINN hosted a series of virtual “study breaks” live on Instagram with the support of some very inspiring and uplifting guests. RAINN Day is one of the highlights of RAINN’s Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, or #SAAPM, activities.

Singer-songwriter Jade Bird closed out RAINN Day with a special musical performance. Joining from her home in the UK, the intimate acoustic performance featured her single “Lottery” as well as a brand new song, “Houdini,” from her forthcoming album.

“This is for RAINN, an organization, and April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month,” Bird said. “I’m hugely enthusiastic and I care about [this issue] very deeply. So, yeah, I think I really just want to spread some love to this community and get involved in any way I can.”

You can also check out other events from RAINN Day, including a reading and Q&A with Stephen Chbosky, author of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Imaginary Friend and a self-care yoga class led by Jackie Reilly.

The rape kit backlog is currently one of the biggest obstacles to prosecuting perpetrators of sexual violence.
