Safe Helpline Director

Jayelemn pronounced (jaah-lem) is the Director of the SAFE Helpline.  He has his  Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Theater from Temple University (Philadelphia, PA) and Master’s in Science in Community Counseling from  Wilmington University (New Castle, DE). He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1991-2004. 

Jayelemn has spent 25 plus years working with at-risk populations in the inner cities of Camden, NJ and Philadelphia, PA where he served in several roles including but not limited to; housing counselor for senior citizens, residential counselor, family counselor and mental and behavioral therapist both in and out of the home, school based therapy programs, residential programs, court ordered and child welfare services, drug and alcohol outpatient, electronic monitoring, homelessness, and juvenile and adult sex offenders. 

Jayelemn began his hotline work in 2017 in Philadelphia, PA as Hotline and Intake Services Manager for the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline through Women Against Abuse, Inc. He oversaw the hotline operations and the identified lead in a four agency wide run hotline in the implementation and revision of assessments, scheduling, appropriate messaging, collaborating with the FBI, local police departments, and strategizing on including best practices. 

During the pandemic of 2020, Jayelemn relocated to the D(M)V area where he served as the Director of Domestic and Sexual Violence Programs at Doorways in Arlington, VA. In this role, he collaborated with the Arlington Police Department and was responsible for overseeing court advocates, housing and residential shelter, case management, and the supervision of volunteers and staff  who escorted victim survivors for SANE exams. Jayelemn served as the Associate Director at Polaris - National Human Trafficking Hotline for 2 years where he was responsible for overseeing all of the operations that entailed scheduling, meetings, onboarding, and improvements to the hotline, and overseeing managers from the hotline, global partnerships team, and the training team.
