Vice President of the Department of Defense (DoD) Safe Helpline

Eric Barreras joined the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) as the Vice President of the Department of Defense (DoD) Safe Helpline in September 2024.

Eric retired from the U.S. Army as Chief Warrant Officer and Supervisory Special Agent with the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID), with an expertise in conducting and supervising felony level Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse investigations.

Following retirement from the U.S. Army, Eric worked with the U.S. Air Force as a Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Specialist (SAPR Victim Advocate). Eric subsequently transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served as a Regional Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC).

Following his tenure with military victim advocacy programs he served as the Training Manager for the U.S. Center for SafeSport, where he collaborated with his team to develop the first ever Athlete Safety Coordinator training standards for the Olympic and Paralympic Movement and co-chaired the organization and implementation of their Annual Summit.

Eric most recently served as a Maritime Safety and Social Responsibility Analyst for the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD), where he served as a Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment (SASH) prevention and response expert, with a focus on conducting assessments in support of MARAD’s Every Mariner Builds a Respectful Culture (EMBARC) program.

Eric graduated from the University of Arizona Global Campus with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology w/special emphasis in Criminal Justice. He’s married to his loving wife Leslie, and they have three children Maddie, Sidney and Andrew.
