RAINN Kicks Off Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month 2018

This April, individuals and communities across the country are recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (#SAAPM) and taking the RAINN Pledge. In light of the #MeToo movement and discussion around sexual violence this year, RAINN hopes to bring increased attention to these crimes and the ways communities can work together to prevent them.

“When you sign the RAINN Pledge, you stand with survivors and pledge to do your part to recognize and prevent sexual violence.” said Jodi Omear, vice president of communications. “We are excited this April to work with communities across the country to turn a spotlight on these issues that affect so many Americans.”

RAINN is elevating the conversation about sexual violence by sharing information—statistics, articles, videos, and graphics—that can help people feel more comfortable talking about and preventing sexual violence and encouraging individuals to sign the RAINN Pledge. Take the pledge and show your commitment to recognizing and preventing sexual violence when you remember “RAINN:”

  • Respect others’ boundaries.
  • Ask for consent.
  • Intervene when someone’s in trouble.
  • Notice the warning signs of abuse and speak up.
  • Nurture myself and others.

“If you need help, we want to be here for you. Whether we’re connecting survivors with a support specialist on the hotline, giving family and friends the tools they need to be supportive, or sharing stories from survivors who are healing and thriving—we want you to know that you are not alone,” said Omear.
