Issues Impacting Your Constituents

Learn how sexual violence affects adults and children in communities nationwide. Together, we can make Americans safer from sexual violence and hold perpetrators accountable.

The Scope of Sexual Violence

800+ people experience sexual assault every day in the U.S.

An estimated 301,580 people ages 12 and up are harmed by sexual violence every year in the U.S., according to the National Crime Victimization Survey. That’s 826 people every day.

Many of these survivors are victimized more than once. Children, in particular, face an increased risk of repeat, ongoing sexual abuse. 1Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Statistics, “Criminal Victimization, 2024”, September 2025.

Child Sexual Abuse Statistics

At least 56,575 children are sexually abused every year.

That’s according to U.S. child protective services records.

The number is staggering—yet it only reflects child sexual abuse that is recognized, reported, and found likely to have occurred against children ages 0-17.

The reality is that sexual violence affects more children than any single data source can show. 1U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families, Children’s Bureau, “Child Maltreatment 2020-2024”, 2026
