Help & Healing
DoD Safe Helpline
DoD Safe Helpline provides a path to help and healing for Department of Defense community members who have been affected by sexual assault.
RAINN provides Safe Helpline services through a contract with the Department of Defense’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO).
What Is Safe Helpline?
Safe Helpline is a crisis support service specially designed to provide live, one-on-one support to sexual assault survivors, their loved ones, and anyone within the Department of Defense community looking for more information. All Safe Helpline services are confidential, anonymous, secure, and available worldwide, providing survivors with the help they need—anytime, anywhere.
Safe Helpline staff members have been trained to answer questions relating to military-specific topics such as Restricted and Unrestricted Reporting and how to connect with relevant military resources, such as an installation or base’s Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC), should those services be requested.
Get Help
There are a number of ways to get help from Safe Helpline:

Online Helpline
Safe Helpline provides live, confidential, one-on-one help through a secure instant-messaging platform at SafeHelpline.org. The website also contains vital information about recovering from and reporting a sexual assault.
Safe HelpRoom
Safe HelpRoom is an online group chat for survivors to connect with and support each other online. The HelpRoom is safe, moderated, and open 24/7. Special sessions are available every Sunday from 1-3pm Eastern Time for men that have been affected by sexual assault.
Safe Helpline App
The Safe Helpline app allows survivors to create a customized self-care plan and access recommended exercises. Self-care plans and exercises can be accessed anytime, even without an Internet connection. You can also use the app to call Safe Helpline for free no matter where you are in the world. The app is available on any IOS or Android device for free.
Responder Database
Receive information about local and national responders and resources, anytime, anywhere on the Safe Helpline website, via text, and on the Safe Helpline app. You can text your zip code or installation to 55-247 (in the U.S.) or +1 571-470-5546 (outside the U.S.) to receive a responder’s contact information. Message and data rates may apply.
Self-Paced Educational Programs
Building Hope and Resiliency: Addressing the Effects of Sexual Assault seeks to help survivors begin to recover, heal, and build resiliency after a sexual assault.
Recognizing the impact that trauma can have, this program is part of a comprehensive effort to enhance resilience and improve readiness across the Total Force. This course may be especially helpful for those individuals you work with who are not yet ready to connect directly with anyone or for those who prefer to do their own research before taking the next step.
