RAINN joined entertainment industry leaders to address women’s health-related issues at an event sponsored by the Entertainment Industries Council (EIC), in conjunction with the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
Based upon the innovative technology and success of the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline, RAINN was invited to present at the Suicide and New Media Action Planning Summit in Washington, DC., sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA).
April 1, 2009 – (Washington, DC) – Today, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, RAINN released a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) entitled “Speak-Out.” The PSA aims to encourage those affected by sexual violence to “speak-out” and get help through the National Sexual Assault Hotlines, available 24/7 over the phone (800.656.HOPE) and online at rainn.org.
In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, Cosmopolitan magazine highlighted the threat of “date-rape” drugs in their April issue. The article, “I Was Drugged and Raped by Two Men,” features the real-life story of a 27-year-old woman who survived a drug-facilitated sexual assault.
March 6, 2009 – (Washington, DC) – RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization, today released important safety tips for students traveling for spring break. In addition to keeping track of travel documents, and remembering to pack the SPF, students should know how to identify and avoid possibly dangerous situations.
February 4, 2009 – (Washington, DC) – RAINN is pleased to announce that Frederick Arnold has been elected chairperson of the organization’s board of directors. Arnold has served on RAINN’s board for three years, serving as chair of RAINN’s audit committee.
December 17, 2008 – (Washington, DC) – The 2007 National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), released today by the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), shows continued evidence of the remarkable decline in sexual violence in the U.S. over the last 14 years.
